Keisha Lance Bottoms began her opening statement Tuesday night with a riveting quote by William Ernest Henley. As mayor, she plans to be a proponent of taking actions because she believes that you cannot wait for someone else to determine the future of our children, families or communities. With her decades of legal experience she plans to revitalize Atlanta.

Her point about the prison system becoming over populated with young men is very well taken. As a young black male, I experience disenfranchisement from the criminal justice system daily. This national epidemic must come to an end and I believe Atlanta can be a pioneer for change.
